Literature Text

Stan and Kyle sat outside, back to back. It was quiet and they’d spent the day together.  It was rare to have time away from Kenny and Cartman.

“Hey Stan?” Kyle said, breaking the silence.

“Yeah?”

“Not much happens here lately. It’s… creepy. No explosions, no aliens….”

“I know. But that’s usually what we hope for. Maybe we should go out and buy a new game or something. This is all so… normal. Like Bradley. Think he can help?”

“With?”

“Well, he’s not from South Park originally. He’s probably from a normal place. He’d know how to keep himself occupied.”

“Heh heh. Guess so. You think… You think he could be… Ya know, a sixth? To our group?”

“Well, Butters is like our fifth, I guess. If he keeps hanging around Butters, I guess he’ll eventually be part of our group too.”

“Guess so.” Kyle smiled.

---

Mr. Stotch sat with Issac, yet again, to drink coffee and talk about their boys.

“I’m glad you’re so understanding of our kids‘ situation.” He said.

Issac smiled, blushing a bit. “Yes. I’d like to have Bradley out of  camp completely, But Naomi is so stubborn… Please don’t tell her about our conversations.”

“Of course.” Butters’ father took another sip from his cup. “You know, I don’t telll my other friends this, they wouldn’t understand, but… Well, Im bicurious myself.”

……………

“Well, so am I!” Issac admitted. “Wow, this is a bit strange. Seems we do have a lot in common!”

“Imagine if our sons actually were to go out together…” Chris smiled as he began to imagine the scenario.  “Your son is a very wonderful boy. And my wife adores him!”

“Your son is quite the blessing too. He’s very cute! And how polite! I hate that camp, but at least it gave our boys a chance to meet.”

“When is Bradley going back? I hear he was supposed to go on weekends, but he hasn’t.”

“Naomi wasn’t him to get fully used to South Park first. I think we’ll send him back during spring break. Theres less children attending. Actually, after your son’s speech, we hear some camps closed. Lack of campers. Remember how the camp had cameras monitoring the area? One caught the speech. It leaked on to the internet… Im not sure if camp will allow-”

“If they don’t let Butters in, we’ll take this to the media!” Chris said, folding his arms across his chest. “Honestly, Im not sure what I was thinking sending Butters there in the first place. I hope he makes another speech! Those camps… Auschwitz!” (Auschwitz is a famous concentration camp the Nazi’s used.)

“That’s a bit much, but I see your point…” Issac smiled, staring at the coffee. “Thank God for your son, Mr. Stotch.”

Chris grinned back warmly.

---

“Ey, Patteh!!” Cartman said, panting as he ran up to her.

“Oh. Hello Cartman… I see you’re NOT with Bradley…”

Cartman chose to ignore that. “So, did you like my fire twirling? I tried to do a good job-”

“I’ve got to go. My mom, uh, needs something. Bye.” She sped off, leaving Cartman to simply watch her leave. He stared, thinking, as a breeze blew past. His body tensed, and his face turned red with anger. “She wont even look at me…” His hands balled into fists. “… If I’m not next to Bradley…”

---

Darkness crept upon South Park and Bradley and Butters made their was back to the schoolyard. The day had gone surprisingly well for Bradley. Nothing embarrassing had happened. Well, besides pinning his crush to the floor and accidentally being molested by Butters knees in the process.

“S-see and stars yet, buddy?” Butters said with a shiver.

“No. N-n-n-ot yet, Butters.”

“Its so coooold now that its getting dark. Im usually home by now. You cold?”

“A little. It’s not so-”

Butters hugged Bradley’s left arm, pressing it against his body. Blushing and looking down at the ground, Butters asked, “I’m so cold. Can I stay next to you?”

Bradley remembers how Kanny had told him about Butters issues with personal space and his total comfort with boy-on-boy hugging.

“Y-y-y-y,” Bradley swallowed and took a deep breath. “Yes, y-you can st…ay… near me.”

“Thank you Bradley! You’re so warm!” Bradley began to blush yet again. “And you’re getting warmer!”

If sin is this temping, Bradley thought to himself, No wonder people go to Hell.

“I watched a Disney movie.” Butters said. “A long time ago, I cant remember which one. But the girl was singing. She said “A dream… is a wish… your heart makes….” I wonder if you’re dream was like that. Or is it was a silly one. I Like those. I dream of Hello Kitty.” Butters let go of his arm, bet held Bradley’s hand. He pointed at a star, smiled, and closed his eyes. Bradley did the same, and they stood in silence, wishing.

“Amen.” They said simultaneously.

“Gah!” Butters squeaked with a smile, hugging his buddy’s arm again. “I got cold again!”

“… I’ll take you home now.”

They walked in silence most of the way. Butters never let go of Bradley’s arm for a moment. It didn’t matter that the rest of Bradley’s body had gone completely numb. His left side was fully aware of Butters’ closeness.

But something bothered him.

“… K- Kenny told me you k-kissed Cartman cause he was sick… Is that true?”

“Oh. Yeah. See, it was before they found a cure for Aids. I didn’t want him to feel unwanted by his friends.”

“Oh, well, that’s nice of you.” Bradley said, putting on a small, false smile. “It’s sad feeling unwanted.” He looked forward again. “Ever since people found out I was bicurious, not many of them wanted me around. My old school was real mean t-t-t-o m-me. My parents gave me a h-hard time too… Mostly mom. There are days when… even I don’t want me around.”

He skidded to a halt. Butters was in front of him, scowling sternly. It was hard to take him seriously though. As angry as he was, his face just looked like a cute pout.

“Nuh-uh! Now you stop that! Everyone wants you! Your parents and everyone at school!” Bradley looked around, worried people would look out the window and listen to the commotion. “Only bad people and criminals are unwanted! Ever since you came here, everything is better than ever! I’m you Accountabillibuddy and as long as I’m here, you can’t feel unwanted! You need to learn to love yourself ‘cause everyone else does!” He leaned in closer. “Gosh Darn it!You’re my best friend and accountibillibuddy! So no matter what, I’ll always want you!!!”

“Bradley?… Aw, don’t start cryin’! I didn’t want that!”

Bradley chuckled a bit, wiping his eyes. “Uhn? Oh, sorry. Its just… I never really felt wanted. Not by anyone important to me…”

The world seemed to stand still the next moment. He couldn’t feel a thing other than Butters warm hand and the soft lips pressed against his cheek. Butters backed away, looking a bit solemn. “We’re at your house. Call me later, ok?” He walked away without saying goodbye.

Bradley walked into his home, letting the warmth momentarily clear his mind.

“Hi momma. Where’s poppa?”

“Out, you sinful bastard.” Before he could do anything, Naomi had taken hold of the hair at the top of his head and began pulling, hard. “I saw that!”

“Gah! Momma!”

“Why did he kiss you? Tell me!” she said, yanking again.

“Momma! That hurts! Stop it!”

“Why did you let him do that?!” She barked. “Answer me!”

“He just does that sometimes to his friends- OW! Like when you kiss your friends goodbye, Momma! It wasn’t sinful! Honest! OWW!”

“Don’t LIE TO ME!!”

“NAOMI!!”

“Gah! Honey!” she said, releasing her son. Bradley rubbed his head, ignoring his watering eyes. He’d learned by now not to cry in front of his mother.

“Bradley, he… he disrespected me!” She told Issac.

“Naomi, I’m tired of this shit.” he said, lifting his son and carrying him. “And them you try to lie to my face! I’m taking Bradley upstairs.”

Not that it helped. Bradley sat there, alone, listening to them fight.

“Whenever I’m gone, you go after Bradley! I know damn well he didn’t disrespect you!”

“How could you know? You weren’t here!”

“I could see him from down the street! I KNOW why you hit him!”

“How else will he learn? After all the money we spent at camp New Grace to fix this, you’re just going to let this slide?!”

“He kissed Bradley goodbye! So what, Naomi? You’re so narrow minded!”

“I saved him today and you should thank me!”

The usual.

Issas came up after things quieted down.

“Still awake?” He said, coming in quietly.

“I made momma mad again. She’d gonna make me live with my aunt and uncle, isn’t she? I didn’t do anything bad… We just said goodbye…”

“She always says she’ll send you off. She wont. She doesn’t mean it… I know you didn’t do anything wrong. Or Butters. Don’t listen to her. Is your head okay?”

“Its fine… Why wont mom believe m-me? I don’t think bicuriosity is a sin. I met some gay men in town. They’re nice. They say I should listen to Butters. They said he’s my blessing.” As if worried Naomi would hear, he whispered “And… I think he is too.”

“Look, next time mommy does anything, tell me. If things get bad, I’ll send you away, but somewhere close, and only till we figure things out. And NOT Camp New Grace.”

“…….. How come momma hits me? You don’t, and mom wont h-hit you. Am I bad to momma, poppa?”

Issac pressed his forehead lovingly against his son’s forehead. “No. Don’t worry. I’ll fix everything for you, k? Go to sleep, angel.”

Bradley smiled and got under the covers.

I won't say you're weird for hating your own character if you won't say I'm weird for loving all the angsty tension in this chapter. xD

I do hope you don't completely hate Naomi through the course of writing this, though. I'm interested to see how Bradley's family situation will be shaped.
